The Mexican coastal town of Cancun is a popular resort with North American tourists. Its proximity to the US, coupled with an abundance of affordable food and alcohol, have made it a hotspot among university students looking to let loose during their Easter Holidays.
Although Cancun is a party destination, there’s much more to do here than just merrymaking. Cancun’s crystal clear water and diverse marine life make it an excellent place to snorkel or even learn to scuba dive. It’s also a great place to relax on the beach, although those who can manage to pull themselves away from the powdery white sands of Cancun will be rewarded with some excellent excursions, including Xcaret, a biologically diverse eco-park where visitors can do everything from swim with dolphins to relaxing in a steam bath that predates the Spanish settlers.
Hotels for every budget abound in Cancun, with youth hostels and budget digs located in the city centre. Most of the more exclusive hotels and resorts are situated in Cancun’s “hotel zone”. The easiest way to get to Cancun is by airplane, and the international airport here is the second largest in Mexico.
